Notes to Dearie, 24 July, 2020

Somewhere at Hug Point Beach, Oregon

I decided it would be good to tuck this little note for Dearie by the sea!

I hid this jar on a sandy shelf of a beautiful, jagged and hulking rock in the surf. I spent most of the day on the seashore, enjoying a little fire on the beach, and letting my thoughts drift out over the ocean… And, unbeknownst to them, I loved watching group after group of passersby discover and puzzle over the wee jar with the words in it.

What I noticed: Women seemed the most frequent to act on their curiosity, and go investigate, and study the whole message. Children seemed to display the most imagination. They’d find it, then run to their parents to drag them over to see. Men seemed to investigate from a distance, sort of circling like a big cat. Some of them took pictures. Some put it into other locations… Some noticed it, passed by, then came back to investigate.

It was a delicious study of humans and whimsy. After sunset, I decided to leave Note for Dearie by the sea. I hope Serendipity will help these words find someone who needs them.

Peace to you goodly people. You, and your heads, and your hearts.
